Zadar airport is located in Zemunik Donji in the near vicinity of the Zagreb-Split A1 highway connection (Zadar 2). It is about 8 km far from the centre of Zadar and it represents a vital connection of northern Dalmatia and Lika to the rest of Croatia and the World. Car

Documents:
To enter Croatia, a driver’s licence, an automobile registration card and vehicle insurance documents are required. An international driving licence is required for the use of rent-a-car services. The permit is issued by the parent motor-club.

The driver of a motor vehicle registered abroad entering the territory of the Republic of Croatia must have a valid International Motor Third Party Liability Insurance document valid on the territory of the European Union, or some other evidence of the existence of such insurance. International insurance documents and evidences are considered to be either an official licence plate of a vehicle normally stationed on the territory of a country whose national insurance bureau is a signatory of the Multilateral agreement or a valid Green Card issued for a vehicle which originates from a country whose national insurance bureau is not a signatory of the Multilateral agreement and other documents and evidences whose validity is recognised by the Croatian insurance Bureau.

Speed Limits:
50 km/h - within settled areas
90 km/h - outside settled areas
110 km/h - on major roadways designed exclusively for motor vehicles, and on highways
130 km/h - on motorways
80 km/h - for motor vehicles with a caravan trailer without brakes
80 km/h - for buses and buses with a light trailer; on motorways, buses are allowed to drive up to 100 km/h, except for those buses carrying children

Please reduce and adjust your speed in wet road conditions.

Regulations:
Driving with dipped headlights is obligatory during winter time.
The use of mobile telephones while driving is forbidden!
The use of seat belts is obligatory.
A reflective sleeveless jacket is an obligatory part of every vehicle’s emergency equipment. The driver is obliged to wear it when he or she is on the road, outside the car (changing a tyre, doing repair works on the car, filling up with petrol, stopping other cars in an attempt to seek help, etc.)

Petrol stations:
In larger cities and on the motorways, petrol stations are open 24 hours a day. Petrol stations sell Eurosuper 95, Super 95, Super 98, Super plus 98, Euro Diesel and Diesel. Gas (LPG) is available in major cities and at petrol stations on motorways.

Parking:
Parking is limited by space in the old city, and by the fact that within the walls most of it is pedestianised. There are a few car parks inside, otherwise there are parking spaces alongside the city walls on the way to the ferry terminal (see maps below). There is a somewhat larger car park on the mainland by the footbridge. Disabled parking spaces are available in all car parks.

Croatia is proud to be the first country where you can pay for parking by text message! Look for the signs in parking areas – they should have a blue or white field. Simply send the registration number of your car as a text message (no spaces, no special characters) to 8231 (1st zone - blue zone) or 8232 (2nd  zone – white zone). Your payment is confirmed when you get a message back from them.

Bus

Regural international bus lines connect Croatia with Austria, Italy, Hungary, France, Germany, Bosnia and Hercegovina. Boat

Regular travel and ferry lines to Italian port of Ancona (Ancona, Pescara and Bari from Split and Dubrovnik). Daily ferry line connects Rijeka and Split during whole year. Line continues to Dubrovnik 3 times a week.

All ports, including those on the islands are available to regular ferry lines. During summer season ferry lines are more frequent.

Getting Around

The Old Town is easy enough to get around on foot. To reach the bus/train stations you can walk or catch one of the frequent local buses (bus 2 or 4 will take you there from the Old Town).
Buses in Zadar are relatively new and well maintained, and you will be able to catch a bus to any part of the city from the main hub in the city called Mala Pošta (Little Post Office); ask any local where this is and they can direct you to it. A bus ticket in one direction costs 10 Kuna (cca. US$1.75) while a two way ticket costs 16 Kuna (cca. US$2.80). However, two way tickets are only available for purchase at newspaper stands, although they are easy to find. One way tickets are available for purchase upon entering any bus. Buses are run by Liburnija; an online timetable is available.

Be advised that bus services cease just after midnight during the summer, so if you plan to get back to a hotel that isn't close to the city center after that time, you might have to walk or catch a taxi. Do not attempt to board a bus without a ticket, without purchasing a ticket or avoiding stamping a bus ticket. Bus drivers in Zadar are notoriously militant about enforcing payment, and you could get into trouble.

Taxis

After arrival to Zadar a local taxi service is at your disposal. The taxies are parked near the bus stop in the port of Zadar, on the Main Bus Terminal and by the bridge (Branimirova obala). You can get a taxi service at the shortest time possible through a call to the Taxi service station at Liburnska obala, phone +385 (0)23 251 400.

There are a multitude of taxi companies waiting to transport your person, for which privilege an equally varied array of prices apply, ranging from 19kn to 40kn for a 5km trip. Your safest bet is to ask the cost of the journey before entering the taxi.
